Desert Child (50% off!) and The Metronomicon (80% off!) go on sale from today until November 25th!
Playing local multiplayer games with friends introduced many of us to gaming. Whether it was working together as Master Chief and the Arbiter in Halo or trying not to screenwatch an enemy in Goldeneye, that feeling of sitting next to someone and playing the game with them is one that we’ve cherished and included in some of our titles. Today, those titles go on sale as Steam Remote Play Together comes out of beta.
Steam Remote Play Together is the local multiplayer answer to the disconnect in our digital age. Once upon a time, I needed to go to my friends’ houses to play local multiplayer with them. Now, Steam Remote Play Together will simulate the experience across the country. Games with local multiplayer like Desert Child and Metronomicon can be played with your friends by streaming the title from a host PC. Rather than both PCs connecting into a games’ multiplayer servers, Steam Remote Play Together connects players locally to a host machine. If I invite you to play Desert Child with me, you’re connecting straight to my computer. Your inputs affect my screen and my screen is being streamed directly to your display.
Here’s the process if you want to play our titles, Desert Child or The Metronomicon using Steam Remote Play Together:
- Add the player to your friends’ list on Steam
- Open the title you want to play with them
- Right click their name in your friend’s list and select “Remote Play Together”
- Have your friend accept the invitation to play!
Desert Child and The Metronomicon behave a little bit differently when it comes to local multiplayer. For Desert Child, local multiplayer entails both the ability for two players to race against one another and for two players to cooperatively move through the campaign mode. If you want to race against one another to crown a champion, head to the race mode and select “2 Player Race.” Each of you will control a different racer and you’ll be able to battle it out until a winner takes the lead! If you want to play single player cooperatively, either player will be able to control the Rider as he moves through the different districts of New Olympia. We recommend “passing the controller” between the different players! If someone chooses to race, rob the bank or herd kangaroos, another player gets to play through that mission. Then, that player chooses the next mission for the first player to play!
The Metronomicon is a co-op title that allows you and your friends to band together like you would for other rhythm games. The host will need to use a controller while the other plays on keyboard. Each of you will be able to select characters, songs and move through the party to hit your combos and defeat your enemies with the power of dance magic!
If you have any questions, run into any bugs or want to find other players to race and/or groove with, please feel free to join us on Facebook, Twitter or Discord!
